Well, we're in the countdown and in the last week before we meet our prospective pastor. I hope everyone is spending time in prayer about this. For those of you like me that have been here since dirt, we really understand the need to be right in discerning whether David is God's man for New Life or not.
I'm not sure this is the way God planned things when He established His church, but it's how we do it now, like it or not. Today we do it much like we do a marriage, only quicker. It's actually a mix of American dating and eastern arranged marriage. In our case we have a team of people trying to 'arrange' the marriage, but we get to say yes or no before we're married. Yes, it's rather unbiblical in some sense, but God does extend His grace in these matters.
God has been our ‘pastor’ during this time, and He has kept things running smoothly. He’s brought us some very fine preaching that has challenged us to the core of our beliefs. He has placed leadership in all the various teams that have kept things going forward, and not waiting. I have been impressed and amazed, as I’ve watched God at work among us.
Of course, we have been very blessed to have such a capable and equipped teacher as Kim to show us how God has moved throughout the ages. And we’ve been blessed by neighboring churches and that has helped us build relationships that were not as strong before. Susan has been faithful to keep the staff on track and to handle the day-to-day needs that arise, and the staff (who really doesn’t need much help to stay on track) has been phenomenal in their faithfulness.
Now, is David God’s man ‘for such a time as this’? Only God knows the answer to that question and we need to ask Him to make it clear to each one of us in our hearts.
A word of caution: Don’t let petty things get in the way of God’s plan. Don’t let doctrinal issues that will forever be debatable get in the way. Don’t let your feelings override God’s leading in this issue. Let God have your heart and let Him say yes or no.
I’ve been at New Life for over 10 years. I have poured myself into ministry there faithfully all of those years. I have shed many tears and have seen many, many people come and go. I have also seen pastors come and go and I’m ready for God to bring us a man who loves Him, loves us, and loves the lost. I’m ready to see someone plant themselves down and struggle with us to see God’s kingdom flourish in Douglasville, Ga. Come hell or high water we will carry on in God’s plan for us in this life. I’m praying for someone who can lead us to new triumphs in Christ Jesus.
1 Tim. 6:20
guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.
Grace be with you all.
Lynn
