Lynn McCann Christmas Eve Stew

If you are interested in helping make the stew, we will be at New Life tomorrow (12/23/09) at 11:00 am. If you can't be there but you still want to make something, we need baked goods (brownies, cookies, etc) for dessert. (Or if you don't cook, store bought cookies are great.) We will need them at New Life by 11:30 am Christmas Eve. For anyone traveling downtown to share on Christmas Eve, please be New Life by 11:00 to help pack everything up. We hope to leave by noon. Thank you to everyone f… Continue

Jamie Laymon Just enough

So this last Tuesday, I wanted to make a little gift for the Dude, Share the Food team I work with every week. I gathered up the ingredients to make a banana bread recipe I bragged about to the team and they have long awaited. With each ingredient I used, there seemed to be just enough to cover the recipe and throw away the empty container. Just enough shortening, just enough vanilla extract, just enough eggs.... I baked eight little mini-loaves of banana bread and left with just enough time to… Continue

erik new mercedes, old bread trucks, and U2

October 22nd, 2009 today was a great day on the streets of atlanta. my friend, rusty, has an old bread truck that we often use to share food on those streets. it’s kind of a “beater”; loud inside, won’t go very fast, one fold-down seat and one folding chair for the passengers……. the first place we stopped was an area called “little 5 points”. always an interesting crowd there. today was no different. we served food and gave out gloves and blankets to the “typical” homeless types, and to the c… Continue

erik it takes a little time

thomas, a small, super quiet, 50-something white man, finally let us pray with him. (not that we’ve been begging him or pushing him. we don’t do that.) but, i’ve seen him downtown probably more than 20 times. he’s not just quiet; he’s super quiet. almost seems scared, like a dog that won’t quite come near you. he has come near, but, even if he answers a question, it seems that his mouth moves, but nothing comes out. well, the other day, he joined me and 2 others for a prayer under a bridge. .… Continue

Jeff Marier Don't Deny Your Calling

While listening to the current series Pastor David has been preaching it reminded of a theme I saw emerge from the book of Ephesians: Calling. From the very first opening verse Paul identifies himself with what God has called him to be: “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God..” Then he proceeds: “..For He chose us... to be holy and blameless in His sight..”(vs.4) “..In Him we were also chosen..(in order that)we might be for the praise of His glory..”(vss.11,12) Ov… Continue

Lynn Mulkey A Great Quote

God receives none but those who are forsaken, restores health to none but those who are sick, gives sight to none but the blind, and life to none but the dead. He does not give saintliness to any but sinners, nor wisdom to any but fools. In short: He has mercy on none but the wretched and gives grace to none but those who are in disgrace. Therefore no arrogant saint, or just or wise man can be material for God, neither can he do the work of God, but he remains confined within his own work and… Continue

Jeff Marier Rocky Balboa and the Strength of Christ

I've often wondered exactly what Jesus meant in the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5:38 when he told us to turn the other cheek when someone strikes you. I don't think the idea is that we become a door mat for everyone who wants to take advantage of us, but perhaps that we become so strong that the attacks from those who oppose us won't bother us or subtract from our absolute joy and confidence that even the gates of hell will not prevail against us (matt 16:18) or what they mean for evil, God m… Continue

David A. Matthews Where does it start?

Kim Brown Thanks David

Great job, once again, on Sunday. Thanks for speaking the Truth. It is difficult to stand on faith at times but, as Christians, we know this is the only thing that pleases God. As you said, God's Word is always true even if our circumstances don't line up with it.- God Bless, thanks for teaching about God's power. Continue

Pastor David Lion Great Message On Sunday - Again!!

"Thank You" Kim Brown for the great way that you yielded yourself to be obediant to the Lord last Sunday. I think Elder Lynn Mulkey nailed it dead on when he said that you took a potentialy difficult subject and delivered it in an outstanding manner. People were coming to me after the service telling me how their lives were impacted (for the good I might add) by the word of God that you brought to us. It is like I have said "If every one will just do their part then the whole will be taken care… Continue

David A. Matthews Coming Home

About 5 or so months ago, my daughter an I started attending New Life again. It had been about a year previous to this that we had to stop due to family matters. Time passed and my heart kept pulling me toward New Life again. On that faithful day Ashley and I made that first trip back to New Life, we've never looked back. All of you guys welcomed us back with open doors and arms. I feel that New Life is where God has placed me and I am sure glad he did just that. We feel truely blessed to be a p… Continue

Lynn Mulkey A letter to my nephew and his new bride

1 Cor. 13 – I'm sure there have been scholars, preachers and saints all through the years who have explained this passage with great detail and flair. They've probably explained the meaning by studying the original greek language and examining it in the light of the rest of the letter, but I'm not a scholar, or preach and only qualify as a saint because the Word of God declares it so. I'm not intentionally trying to be original or clever, but as I studied the scripture this weekend in preparatio… Continue
